What Makes us Different?

Oakover Retrievers really started from a love of Golden Retrievers and knowing just how special the right dog can be.

We've been lucky enough to experience that ourselves with Yeti and our foundation girls, who are the forefront of our breeding program. Yeti is the definition of a soul dog — a best mate, and the kind of dog that's hard to ever put into words. If the puppies we breed can give another family even a little bit of what he's given us, then we're doing something right.

But Oakover isn't built around one dog. We're incredibly proud of the girls behind our program and, even more importantly, the generations we're now seeing come through them.

There is something pretty special about watching our precious girls become a mum and then seeing the qualities we loved in her come through in her daughters and, eventually, future generations. Being able to retain our own girls means we know exactly where they've come from. We know their health, their temperament, their strengths, their quirks and the dogs behind them. It allows us to keep what we love, improve where we can and make thoughtful decisions about where we want our lines to go next.

That's what we want Oakover to be — not just producing one litter after another, but building something over generations.

We're not just breeding for a nice-looking Golden Retriever. We want healthy, happy dogs with beautiful temperaments that have the best chance of living long, healthy lives with their families. Dogs that can be part of everything, grow up alongside the kids, come on adventures and, hopefully, become someone's once-in-a-lifetime dog.

Health is a huge part of that. Our breeding dogs are carefully selected, health tested and thoughtfully matched. We look at the whole dog — health, temperament, structure, personality, pedigree and what each dog can bring to the next generation. We're also open about our results because we believe families deserve to know exactly where their puppy has come from.

Our puppies are born and raised on our family farm in regional Queensland. They grow up around our family, our kids, our dogs, other animals and all the normal noise and chaos of everyday life. They're handled every day, given plenty of enrichment and, when they're old enough, given the chance to get outside, explore and just be puppies.

We put a lot into every litter, but we're also always looking further ahead — at the next generation and the one after that. Every dog we keep and every pairing we make has a reason behind it.

For us, the goal is pretty simple — healthy dogs, beautiful temperaments and best mates.

Because everyone deserves the chance to be as lucky with their dog as we've been with all of ours.
